It was an effort echoed at Forum Sujana Mall across five cities and Hyderabad, too joined the cause. As part of the event to create awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, two mini and a half marathon, ‘The Purple Run’ was held in which over 750 people joined in the city on Sunday.

The run was simultaneously held in Mangalore, Chennai and Bengaluru. Speaking on the occasion Tanveer Shaikh, General Manager, Forum Sujana Mall said, “Sports, cinema and music are the powerful media that can trigger a movement.

We thought of using sports as a medium to create a movement for Alzheimer, the fifth leading cause of death among people above the age group of 55 Years. I thank all participants who exerted their energies for this cause.”

“Alzheimer’s affects different parts of the brain but severely impacts the areas that control memory, language, and thinking skills. Most people assume that it is a normal part of aging which is false.

The progressive disease course is divided into four stages and worsens over time having no current cure for now, but treatments for symptoms are available temporarily treating those with early signs of detection thereby improving the quality of life for those affected with Alzheimer's and their caregivers,” said a doctor at the event.
