Budding hoopsters get a Serbian coach

An exclusive ‘Basketball Coaching Centre’ is underway at KVBR Indoor Stadium at Yousufguda. A feature of the clinic is that the budding hoopsters will be mentored by acclaimed Siberian coach Hunaro Herk, who is in town at the invitation of Telangana Basketball Association (TBA).

According to Association officials Rajendhar Reddy, Norman Isaac and R Sridhar Reddy, this endeavour is aimed at helping the youngsters get attuned to the finer aspects of the sport as they prevail in Europe and USA. They pointed out that after the 10-day camp concludes, they would draw a blueprint that will provide for more such camps and boost the sport’s popularity.

Herk said that he was impressed with the enthusiastic turnout for the clinic. He said that there was good talent around but it needed to be groomed to more appropriate levels, which he would aspire to do in his capacity as the coach.

The coaching camp was inaugurated by Chairman of Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) A Venkateshwar Reddy. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated TBA for brining in a foreign coach. He urged other association to take cue and emulate the precedent by roping in seasoned coaches from abroad.

On his part, he was categorical that every association, which organised similar foreign coach-monitored camps, will be provided stadiums free of cost.
