Among attendee engagement activities planned at the TEDx Hyderabad, there was a stall 8mango.com, set up by Bangalore-based Dhiraj Sharma. The stall drew the maximum footfall at the event. The tiny, eye-catching and attractive objects made from e-waste and home/office junk put out on display caught everybody's attention.

“I work for a startup in Bangalore. I am the creative head there. I am a self-taught artist. I have conducted workshops in many cities such as Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore among others. I have created a mascot for IIT Mumbai Tech Fest from e-waste. I started this art from 2006. I have hundreds of workshops to my credit. My workshops are organised in schools and even in corporate offices,” shared Dhiraj Sharma.

“I made my first object from a mango fruit, I used its fibre, and kernel. And that is the reason for me to name my company as ‘8mango.com’. I started from a humble home-based studio. I started creating art from junk because I love the feeling of actually creating something new from something old,” Dhiraj added.

Dhiraj has used 22kgs of electronic waste so far and made 50 plus beautiful artefacts. Although his artworks were only on display, many visitors saw and enquired if he would sell them. The objects were so cute that you feel like stealing them if they are not sold.

Dhiraj informed that has run 80 episodes on Sony TV teaching how to make these tiny objects from the waste, material discarded or thrown as useless things. “I want to create a museum of these art objects I created out of junk and inspire future generations,” he concluded.
