The said meeting was attended by the CMDs and representatives from member CPSEs and sports personalities.

Discussions were held on the issues such as identification of States where specific sports may be taken up, apart from affiliation/association of CPSEs with sports federations/apex sports bodies such as Indian Olympic Association. The committee in its maiden meeting also discussed about the possibility of support by CPSEs under MoS to various sports Leagues such as hockey, football, kabaddi, badminton, wrestling leagues etc.

Baijendra Kumar suggested the members to prepare detailed proposals for setting up of sports leagues by CPSEs under MoS and to examine various schemes of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports related to promotion of sports and to examine the possibility of sponsoring major sporting events in the country.

The points deliberated during the meeting included formulating a sports policy by CPSEs; need for promotion of sports at grass root level; national, international medal winners may be employed who will be brand ambassadors; CPSEs under Ministry of Steel may jointly sponsor some major sports events; CPSEs may form their own teams; utilisation of “Khelo India”, “Come & Play” type platforms; separate dedicated Senior Officer(s) may be identified for promotion of sports etc.
