Commuters waiting at the Pension office bus stand at Banjara Hills, Road No 12 are crying foul over the stench from the humongous pile of garbage dumped by GHMC workers near it. With the rise in the number of swine flu and dengue cases, the garbage has become a cause of concern to the locals.

“The garbage pile has been growing each day; it’s been a week now and no one’s cleared it. I wait at the bus stop for 10 to 15 minutes daily and the reek is unbearable,” wailed a passenger.

With continuous downpour, the pile is dampened and has turned house to street dogs and pigs. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation workers, who are cleaning a nearby nala, dump all garbage from there near the bus stop.

“Due to rain there has been a delay in clearing the dump but, we are supposed to transport the garbage within three days,” said a GHMC worker on condition of anonymity.

Voicing concern over breeding mosquitoes near the pile, Ibrahim, one of the shopkeepers in the locality said, “Their number has increased a lot and it is worst during the night.”
