A global symposium on Arthoplasty Hip was held at KIMS Hospitals Secunderabad on Tuesday.

“It has been an academic feast including panel discussions, interesting case discussions, technique videos, current controversies and live surgical demonstrations by a host of international and national faculty,” said Dr Uday Krishna, Course Director and Consultant Orthopaedic.

Over 100 doctors from across the country attended the conference in which Professor Ross Crawford from Australia, a pioneer in hip replacement shared his thoughts on the future of robotics in orthopaedics.

“Robots and robotic technology are the source of human fascination. The use of robotics in joint arthroplasty has developed immensely over past 30 years and differ in concept from the da Vinci robotic surgery.

The relative rigidity of bone allows preoperative imaging and pre-planning of bony cuts, essentially enabling the robot to perform large sections of the surgery in an automated manner. Inta-operative adjustment of the plan according to the patient’s soft tissues can generally be made and it is this precision and accuracy of the adherence to the surgeons plan by the robotic cutting tools that is the major proposed benefit of robotic-assisted joint arthroplasty surgery,” said Prof Crawford.
