Uppal: Leftovers and paper trash strewn on the streets is making for a filthy picture as people are resorting to littering after the distribution of ‘Annapurna Meal Scheme’ here.

Fed up of the mess, Anjaiah, a fruit vendor here said, "The sanitation workers come in the morning and clear the garbage daily. However, since the meals are distributed throughout the day we have to deal with the stink of the leftovers.”

Rakesh, a commuter added, "There is a primary health centre opposite to this section. I don't know what message the government is trying to convey with the hospital on one side and filth on the opposite."

When contacted, a senior GHMC officer said, "The Sanitation Department works from 5:30am to 1pm. How much cleanliness do you expect us to maintain?”
“Moreover, it is the people who are littering it and they must have better civic sense,” he opined. Meanwhile, officials from Sanitation Department were unavailable for comment.
