Neknampur: The residents of Alkapuri Township constantly use their ingenuity to find new ways of saving the centuries-old water body there.

The latest effort is to use sewage pipes as a fence. Volunteers of Dhruvansh, an NGO instrumental in the conservation of Neknampur Lake for the past few years, came up with the idea of fencing the lake with 8ft pipes.

The volunteers not only placed 66 sewage pipes at the periphery of the lake, they used their creativity and painted them in bright colours attracting attention of the locals.

When asked how they could use the pipes that were meant to be underground, Madhulika of Dhruvansh said that the pipes were lying as such for over a year and repeated requests to the authorities to remove them proved futile.

According to the locals, the pipes were procured without the government’s approval by locals to lay an underground pipeline, but the plan was shelved.

Madhulika said, “We will use every possible resource to save the water body. These pipes by their sheer size and beauty, after they were painted are giving out a loud and clear message to people who aim to encroach or throw garbage.”
