Uppal: The movement of traffic in Uppal has always been congested and dangerous. Add lack of traffic inspectors in the area, then one has a major recipe for disaster.
One such busy crossroads at the main road here is a street bustling with vehicles and according to locals, the traffic police has an ‘attitude and punctuality’ problem.
Brahmaiah, a local fruit juice seller near the place said, “I met with an accident a week ago while I was trying to cross the road. This damaged my vehicle and I met with minor injuries, but none of the traffic inspectors paid any heed to the incident.”
Mohan Babu, a private sector employee added, “A few days ago I saw a woman, who was trying to cross the road and a car hit her injuring her badly. We tried to communicate the same to the traffic police inspectors, but they looked disinterested in sorting out the problem.”
Meanwhile, lack of cops at the junction also proves for traffic snarls.
Mohan Reddy, a local commuter revealed, “The traffic cops are certainly there, but after a certain point of time, they vanish and don’t return. We have to wait for a long time for the traffic to get cleared.”
“It is a known fact, that in evenings there is a rush of vehicles, and it is because of their absence that there are a lot of school and college children who indulge in buying and selling drugs on the streets,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, head of Traffic Police, Jangaiah denied any accidents in the area. “There are no accidents which happened in that area. We work from morning till 10pm. There is no question of crime happening at Uppal; we have our records to prove this,” he said.
“Moreover, we may not be there in person, but we monitor the diversions,” he said.
