Cherlapally: The recent visit of Ivanka Trump saw the city getting a makeover. The city administration transformed the roads by repairing potholes and re-carpeting them in many parts of the city. However, the state of roads at Cherlapally, which boasts of having a ‘Hitech prison’, is worsening by the day. The roads have been in a dilapidated condition for more than five years now.
Kalyani, a software employee says, “I remember it was somewhere around six months back, some people had come to repair the roads. However, within a week the roads were in bad shape again.”
Krishnaiah, who drives an auto-rickshaw for a living, states that because of the conditions of the road he has to shell out Rs 500 to Rs 1000 every month to repair the vehicle. “It is very difficult to pay so much money for repairs because of the roads. I am sure the problem is same for other vehicle owners of the area.”
Kiran, a homemaker informs that she is scared to send children out of the house because of the roads. “Every time my kids go out to play, they come back with some or the other injuries. Two weeks back my son fell down and injured his knees severely since then I have been taking precautions of not sending them out,” she rues.
Pavan, an MNC employee shares that the damage is caused due to the overflowing nalas in the area. “The worst part is that we have people coming from GHMC to clear the area once in 15 days, but when we try to explain them the situation, they say that it is not their job of clearing nalas and state that we should get in touch with authorities concerned.”
“Last month I had been to GHMC office at Uppal and spoke to senior officers there, they said Cherlapally division does not come under them. It is difficult for working people like us to run from pillar to post only to see the blame being shifted from one office to another. I have dropped the idea of complaining now as every complaint has fallen on deaf ears,” he adds.
This reporter contacted GHMC officials of Kapra division and one of the senior official said, “I shall take a note of the matter and escalate the issue person who is in-charge of the area and would ensure that things are taken care of immediately.”
