Chanchalguda: On the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi up to 10 prisoners will be freed from Central Jail here. The announcement came on Thursday at a media conference organised by FOCUSS, a city-based social welfare organisation that undertook the initiative.

According to President of FOCUSS, Mufti Qasim Taskheer Siddiqui, “Many of these prisoners, who are spending time for petty allegations, are incapacitated by their financial condition and have no resources to bail out. FOCUSS and Tanzeem e Irshadul Muslimeen (TIM) undertook the initiative to sponsor legal fees for such prisoners and bail them out to a normal living.”

Ahsan Bin Mohammed Al Hamoomi, President of FOCUSS, added, “There are many prisoners losing important time of their life in jail. They could as well be spending that time outside the jail, reuniting with their family and leading a better life.” “Our initiative is a first step towards achieving this. Of 10 prisoners, two will be released from jail on Saturday December while the remaining will be released at successive one-day intervals thereafter. We made no demarcations of cast and creed in considering their release,” he added.

Sensibly noting the situation, another office bearer of FOCUSS Maulana Siddiqui pointed, “If each affluent family from city comes forward to sponsor the legal fees of one prisoner, a lot of prisoners convicted of such niggling charges will be able to live free and with their families again.”

“It was one of the Prophet’s traits to free prisoners, and Milad-un-Nabi is the best occasion to imitate that for the greater good of our society, irrespective of cast and creed,” he said.

A blood donation camp will also be conducted at State Central Library in Afzal Gunj, Idgah Balamrai, Secunderabad, Mahmoodguda from 7am to 5pm on Saturday.

The collected blood will be distributed among the needy patients through Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society Blood Bank and Red Cross Society.
