Gachibowli: Over hundred members of Facilities Management Council Telangana (FMC) cycled five kilometres to promote “Handloom Monday” in the IT industry here recently. Sporting T-Shirts with Handlooms Monday, they went around pedalling IT companies.

The cycling was flagged off at DLF, Gachibowli on Saturday morning, and the bikers travelled to Kothaguda, Cyber Towers, Raheja Mind Space, Pheonix Arena, Dell, Oracle, Tech Mahindra and returned to DLF, Gachibowli. "Nearly four lakh people work in the IT Industry in the city. And if some of them start wearing handloom clothes at least one day in a week, it will give a great boost to artisans and handloom industry," Satyanarayana Mathala, president, FMC, said.

"We have administered an oath to 250 FMC and IT professionals to wear handlooms every Monday at our 'Fifth Annual Facilities Management Council Summit'. Everyone must encourage and support to uplift handloom industry to restore its last glory. In this regard, the handlooms and textiles department is putting efforts to improve the designs and make handloom garments more appealing to the present generation," Satyanarayana added.
