Uppal: Residents of Uppal can heave a sigh of relief now as the construction of the bypass road near a prominent supermarket is likely to be completed by March 2018. The same was shared by local Corporator Anala Reddy who said, “The bypass road will not only decrease traffic congestion, but also facilitate smooth passage of commuters.”

According to Reddy the estimated cost of the project is about Rs 1 crore and 20 lakh. “As of now we got three roads constructed that are 66ft each; one behind the Uppal bus stand, another near vegetable market and the third at Lakshmi Narsimha Colony at Kurmanagar. The estimated cost of the project was Rs 49 lakh,” she said.

"There are a lot drainage issues that we identified near the Old Uppal village. The manholes of drains are un-plastered for the last 20 years due to which there were pigs roaming in the area.

I filed a petition last week to the Zonal commissioner office for its plastering, which has been approved and work is likely to start by the first week of January,” she added.

It may be recalled that for the past 10 to 15 years residents of Uppal were finding it difficult to move around and commute in heavy traffic owing to the congestion near the main road. Since Uppal roads see movement of heavy vehicles like petrol tankers and goods vehicle apart from buses, the roads had become an accident-prone zone and point of congestion for both vehicle and people.

"Keeping the above picture in mind, HMDA had started the construction of the road three years ago. The work was kept on backseat as there were some legal issues registered for the construction. However, things are sorted out now.

About 20 per cent of the construction work is remaining which would be completed shortly,” assured the corporator.

When asked about other problems in the area, she said, "There are about 42 colonies in Uppal. We are identifying places that have low water pressure, which obstructs the supply. Following this we are going to deploy water workers to correct the network lines. This work would take another six months."

"We also identified that most of the streets in Uppal lacks streetlights. I am planning to file a petition for the installation of one lakh street lights to the Zonal commissioner in the beginning of 2018 to ensure that the residents live in safe zone,” she said.
