Khushaiguda: It’s ‘out with the old and in with the new’ for dhobis here after the government’s decision to introduce ‘moden dhobi ghats’. In this regard, the first form would be introduced at Khushaiguda.
Highlights:
- To be built in 2,000 sqft
- Upto 600kg of clothes can be washed in bulk
- Washing machine, dryer and extortion machines to be provided
- Pilot project to be set up in Khushaiguda
- 15 people from 200 families to receive employment and skill training
- Upto Rs 20,000 per head can be earned
The move has been initiated keeping in mind the health conditions of the dhobis who were spending hours washing clothes in water that was leading them to have skin diseases and the harmful soda was damaging their hands.
T Srinivas, Most Backward Community Chairman told The Hans India, "The Modern Dhobhighat at Khushaiguda would be built in a place of 2,000sqft area. We intend to provide washing machine, dryer and extortion machines."
"These modern equipments would enable the dhobis to wash 600kg of clothes at a time, with involving much of physical labour and do bulk of their work within a short span of time. It’s a pilot project, we intend to have this across the 31 districts of Telangana,” he said.
When asked about how much employment the modern dhobi ghats would generate, Srinivas said, "From every 200 families we are going to pick up 10 to 15 people and train them to use these machineries, so that they can become skilled and earn through this.
We are designing the complete system in such a way that any person who enters this business would earn Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 easily and have a proper life. We would also be providing gloves and shoes to the dhobis to ensure their safety."
Elaborating on project financing, he said, “As of now Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy has sanctioned Rs 15 lakh for the project and Washermen Federation has released Rs 40 lakh for the same.
The construction of the compound would start in the next 10 days and would take two months for completion.""The government has promised financial help as and when needed, during the time of construction,” he said.
