Chatrinaka: After uproar over the encroachment of the Masjid-e-Munshi and its graveyard at Chatrinaka, Waqf Board officials visited the place and inspected the premises here recently.

Waqf activist Osman Al Hajri said that despite several representations to the concerned authorities over the past five to seven years no action was taken against the encroachers. He alleged that the staff at Waqf Board does not support the decisions of its chairman

The issue had been raised many times but there was no action against the encroachers. It was alleged that Waqf Board staff was hand-in-gloves with the encroachers of the land.
Activists from Waqf Protection Society visited the place earlier this week and brought the issue to the notice of the Waqf authorities.

The officials visited the spot and demanded the encroacher Abdul Wahed to vacate the graveyard and mosque premises, which are being used to store logs of the Timber Depot owned by Wahed.

Waqf activist Osman Al Hajri said that despite several representations to the concerned authorities over the past five to seven years no action was taken against the encroachers. He alleged that the staff at Waqf Board does not support the decisions of its chairman and concrete action against encroachers could not be taken.

He said that many graves were desecrated and damaged in order to give way for the storage of wooden logs in the graveyard. Similarly, the road side area is rented by the illegal occupants of the graveyard.

Meanwhile, Waqf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem is believed to have promised that this issue would be resolved in a week’s time. However, the graveyard has been under illegal occupation of miscreants for a long time now and officials have been turning a blind eye.
