Work for the double bedroom project that had come to a grinding halt at West Marredpally opposite the police station would now begin soon. A team headed by RDO Chandralekha headed to the location on Thursday and with police protection demolished the few houses that were protesting against the move.

A few property owners approached the court, but as the land belongs to Housing Board, their plea for a stay was not accepted. In all there are 356 beneficiaries for the two-bedroom scheme at West Marredpally.
While a majority of the residents willingly moved away to nearby areas such as Neredmet and Malkajgiri, about 10 families were unhappy and said that their houses were in good condition and did not want to move out.
