Madhapur: The Sri Sai Nagar here, has been reeking with the stench emanating from a drainage overflow along the roadside. The weeklong menace has been causing residents of this area to frequently fall ill due to the unhygienic conditions here. Garbage being dumped by the residents is adding to the menace, making it impossible for the commuters to travel through the roads here.

Even though the GHMC staff has been cleaning the area, residents allege that all they do is leave the garbage in a pile. Locals also do not contribute to the reform as they throw waste on the narrow lane where stagnant water from the gutters lay.

A resident of this locality, B Babitha said, “The place has become very dirty and it gets worse during the rainy season. Even the GMHC officials pay no heed to the issue.”
Another local, S Vijayalakshmi agrees. “The drainage leak has resulted in the mosquito menace. My family members have been falling prey to viral fevers like dengue and others. We have asked the GHMC to clean up the place on Thursday and we await the clean up as soon as possible,” she said.

Asma Khan said, “As the garbage lies right in the middle of the road, we have to bear with the stench. The lane gets congested with vehicles in the evening and we are forced to stay indoors because of the mosquitoes.”
