Spurt in cases pose threat
In the last six months there have been five cases of illegal Rohingya migrants being caught by police commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda.

Rising incidents

- 2014: Mohammed Khalid, a Myanmar national who was running terror camps in Bangladesh was arrested in Hyderabad for literature relating to explosives and jihadi pamphlets.
In the latest case, three Myanmar nationals were caught by Kanchanbagh Police who seized fake Aadhaar cards, voter cards and an Indian passport on Friday. D Venkateshwarlu, SI, SB, South Zone said, “Even if the Rohingya refugees have a refugee card they are not entitled to apply for any identity card in India.”
Nazar-ul-Islam, 40 a native of Garathobid village, Mandu district, Cab State, Myanmar was working in Bawarchi Hotel in Secunderabad. Parveen Akhtar, 28 and Mohammed Zuwell took help from an agent Sattar Khan and Ismail Khan an employee of Mee Seva Centre.
Police officials say that illegal Rohingya migrants pose a serious security threat and many do not possess refugee cards issued by United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UHHCR). Even those who have refugee cards are not supposed to have voter ID or ration card.
Security threat
The illegal migrants are posing a serious threat say police officials as they are easy prey for terrorist organisations. The first such case of a Myanmar national caught for terrorist activity was in 2014.
Mohammed Khalid, 28 was arrested from in the old city for possessing incriminating videos, literature relating to explosives and jihadi pamphlets.
Hyderabad police says that a number of migrants are coming to the city either from Jammu or Kolkata. With no skills and lack of education, the migrants are easy prey for anti-social elements.
There are about 4,000 refugees in the three police commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda. But around 300 to 400 Rohingyas who migrated from Myanmar have no refugee card and are considered illegals.
