TAVR is usually done on intermediate or high-risk patients for standard valve replacement surgery. Chief of Cardiac Service, Citizen Specialty Hospital Dr A Sreenivas Kumar said,
“We have successfully performed pioneering cardiac procedure Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) on a 82-year-old man and the patient’s stay in hospital was only for three days and overall recovery took only about a fortnight”. He said that TAVR is usually done on intermediate or high-risk patients for standard valve replacement surgery.

He added that TAVR is also becoming an alternative particularly in those that are considered at moderate to high risk for open-heart surgery.

The Citizens Heart team led by Dr A Sreenivas Kumar, Consultant Cardiologist and Chief of Cardiac Services, Dr Gokul Reddy, Consultant Cardiologist and Director, and Dr Sudheer Koganti, Consultant Cardiologist, announced that a dedicated Heart Failure Clinic was established at the hospital, at the Media Conference, here on Thursday.

Speaking about the launch of Heart Failure Clinic by the Citizens Hospital, Dr Sreenivas said that this Clinic will not only strive to improve heart function in those diagnosed with heart failure but also target those at risk of heart failure and prevent it.

He said that the clinic will have expertise in acute heart failure in using devices such as Impella, revascularization in heart failure and stem cell therapy configured the services.

Dr A Sreenivas Kumar was elected unanimously as the Chairman of National Interventional Council of Cardiological Society of India (CSI-NIC). It was a recognition of experience, original research work and leadership qualities.
