Professor Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, Goa University inaugurated a two-day Seminar at College of Defence Management (CDM) with the theme “Military Effectiveness in India”, here on Thursday. The annual seminar aims to discuss contemporary strategic issues by experts, leading thinkers, and military leaders across the country.  

Trimulgherry: Professor Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, Goa University inaugurated a two-day Seminar at College of Defence Management (CDM) with the theme “Military Effectiveness in India”, here on Thursday. The annual seminar aims to discuss contemporary strategic issues by experts, leading thinkers, and military leaders across the country.

As a part of the inaugural address the chief guest identified the critical need for a matching military power and military effectiveness to supplement the diplomatic and the economic initiatives for consolidating the country’s position as a regional leader and global emerging power.

He added that there is an imperative need to exploit coherent and aligned strategy, structures for civil-military relations, equipment, training, doctrine, capacity for innovation, to convert resources in terms of funds, manpower, technology and natural resources to achieve the notion of victory.

With an aim to comprehend military effectiveness without restricting it only to the military domain, the panelists for the seminar have been drawn from politics, foreign and administrative services, think tanks, serving and retired military officers who are subject matters experts.

In addition to the esteemed panelists, the seminar was attended by eminent personalities including Former Air Chief, Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, Major General N Srinivas Rao, GOC, Telangana and Andhra Sub Area, Rear Admiral D S Chouhan ex Commandant CDM, representatives from Service HQs & HQ Integrated Defence Staff, representatives from War Colleges, faculty members from Osmania University faculty members and participants of Higher Defence Management Course.

Dur Drishti – a Bi-Annual, Defence Management Journal of the College was released on the occasion.
