Few bus stops have shelters but are poorly maintained. Thousands of people travel by public transport buses in old city but neither RTC nor GHMC authorities ever tried to establish shelters for all the bus stops.
From Kala Pathar to Fateh Darwaza and Shamshir Gunj to Shah Ali Banda or any other place in old city, the bus stops do not have proper bus shelters. People from interiors of the old city use RTC buses for transport across the city every day.
On the other hand, arrangements were also not made for establishing some good bus shelters keeping in view the tourist area near Charminar, Chowmahalla and Chowk or Laad Bazar. We cannot find a good bus shelter near Chowmahalla Palace where hundreds of foreign and domestic tourists visit every day.
Bus commuters demanded that RTC and GHMC authorities must take up the task of establishing bus shelters wherever there was a necessity.
A resident of Chatrinaka, Rakesh Kumar said that lack of shelters becomes pain in the neck during summer. He said that firstly people have to wait for buses and with no place to stand. “Many people use other means like auto rikshaw to avoid standing in the open”, he lamented.
Same is the case with route number 70, where people have to stand on the road. Sultan from Kala Pathar said that there was not a single bus shelter across the route towards Charminar. He also mentioned that municipal authorities must have taken proper arrangements for establishing bus stops in old city.
Many people in the tourist area also opined that there was need to develop the vicinity with good bus shelters to attract tourists and create an ambience for them.
Sami, a DTP operator from Chatta Bazar said that it would be better to streamline the bus service along with improving the bus shelter facilities in old city. He opined that thematic bus shelters can be a great attraction for tourists coming from across the world.
