Charminar: Public representatives, government officials and representatives of women organisation resolved to encourage any endeavour in favour of empowering girl child and protecting them. The public representatives have expressed their willingness to participate in girl child empowerment at a meeting organised at Charminar, commemorating the National Girl Child Day,

Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri said that people need to take extra care when it comes to upbringing and nurturing a girl child. Besides providing them education, there is a need to empower them in other aspects too, he opined.

The event was organised by the Women and Child Welfare Department in collaboration with Shahee Women Resource and Welfare Association.

The ‘Children Rising Against Violence’ campaign will have 21 days of activism across various districts of Telangana with hundreds of children and youth declaring a year of protecting rights of children – ‘Right to be safe and secured’.

Speakers emphasised the value and rights of the girl child, including the importance of education and nutrition, as well as freedom from violence and oppression in the home in the name of culture. The police also spoke about SHE Team constitute to handle the safety of girls on the road. A toll free number 1098 of SHE Team’s for child protection hotline was launched. The event also included the release of a documentary film on child sexual abuse and child marriages.

Local corporator Syed Sohail Quaderi, Shaheen chief functionary Jameela Nishat, district women officer G K Sunanda and other dignitaries attended the event.
