Charminar: The idea of women empowerment is picking up in Old City these days. Young women and house makers are coming forward to learn courses and techniques that would enable them to be self-sufficient financially.

SETWIN centre here is trying to train the women from Old City in different crafts so that they could earn a modest income staying at home. As part of this programme, office bearers of SETWIN have started to give membership to the women from across the Old City.
The members are imparted with training in different courses on one hand and are provided various facilities. Courses include computer basics, beautician, tailoring and craft making. Interestingly, the SETWIN also provides a stipend of Rs 1,000 to every women member during the training period.

The products made by trained women and girls are purchased by SETWIN on the market rate in order to encourage women entrepreneurship.

Syed Hasan Raza Zaidi, a person from manpower agency affiliated to SETWIN said that there have been many surveys for past few months in order to increase the number of women members. He said that their target was to connect at least one lakh women with SETWIN.
“Many facilities are provided to the members including child education, health facilities, providing vehicles on subsidiary rates to the women of the group”, he informed.

He said that so far 4,000 to 5,000 women have been registered. Women are given information of all the government schemes meant for them beside providing them training, he said.
