Nacharam: Corporator Shanti Saizen Shekhar has received a sum of Rs 91 lakh that was released from the office of GHMC for the renovation of Hindu graveyard in the division. This achievement was only possible after a year long struggle, when the corporator had submitted the proposal and a continuous follow up, their efforts reaped results recently with the amount being sanctioned.

The renovation works will be initiated in a month or two. We need to assign tenders to the respective departments and once when the tender is passed; it would be assigned to the contractors. It would take around six months for all developmental works to complete

Shanti Saizen Shekhar told The Hans India, “This crematorium ground that is going to be renovated is of about 50 years old. As a result, the wall of the compound, bathrooms, waiting room are in a bad condition. People somehow were trying to manage with these conditions, which was not acceptable.”

“We are planning to build new platform in the crematorium to ensure that people who come to perform the last rites do not have to wait for long, and we are also looking forward to enlarge the waiting rooms so that it can accommodate large number of people in it”, she said.

When asked about the details of renovation works in the crematorium, Shanti Saizen Shekhar said, “We are also going to install new gates for the crematorium compound and will put up security system for the ground.

We have got reports that people have been misusing the space of crematorium for consuming alcohol during nights. Dogs have also been seen entering the compound which has to be stopped and putting up security in front of the gate can help in this issue.”

“The renovation works would start in a month or two. We need to assign the tenders to the respective departments and once when the tender is passed; it would be assigned to the contractors. After assigning the tenders it would take about six months for all developmental works to complete” concluded Shanti Saizen Shekhar.
