Hyderabad: Energy Conservation of IEI, Telangana State Centre (TSC), organised a technical lecture on ‘Energy Efficiency through PAT Scheme’ delivered by G Subrahmanyam, CEO, Siri Exergy & Carbon Advisory Service Private Limited, Hyderabad. He explained about the lecture the Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency-BEE are entrusted with the task of preparing the implementation for the National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency-NMEEE under National Action Plan on Climate Change.

This mission has a component which deals with the market based mechanism to improve the Energy Efficiency in Energy Intensive Large Industries and facilities by certification of energy savings which could be traded. This scheme known as Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT).

This scheme, in fact exceeded the initial expectations of 10 million metric tonnes of oil equivalent (MToE) / year in the first phase and heading for phase-II. If we use this PAT scheme in true spirit, based on market demand, one can get an additional benefit of Rs.1 Crore for every 1 Kcal / Kwh heat rate reduction for Thermal Power Plants as incentive depending on size of the plant.
