Ibrahimpatnam: The Commissioner of Police of Rachakonda unit Mahesh M Bhagwat started a school at Ravirala village of Adibatla for the children of brick kiln workers. This is the second school started by the commissioner in one month, which shows the efforts he is taking to free the children of brick kiln workers from the shackles of child labor.
Malla Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ibrahimpatnam told The Hans India, “There are about 9000 brick kiln workers who have come from Orissa and settled in the Rachakonda zone. Now these workers have lately got into the habit of taking their children to the place where they work and involving them in the same. Most of the children were identified below 14 years.”
“Now the situation was such that we cannot directly confront the parents. So, our commissioner of police Mahesh M Bhagwat decided to give counseling to the parents first and then tell them to send these children to the school which we would be opening for them” added Malla Reddy. Ranga Reddy collector Raghunandan Rao provided two rooms for starting the school for classes one to seven.
About 500 children who were prone to child labour, were identified from the area and would be inducted into the school.
Four teachers from Orrisa have been appointed to take classes for these children in the school. The Brick kiln owner association has come forward to pay the salary to the teachers. Each of these teachers would be paid Rs 5000. The members also agreed to coordinate with the police team in reporting about the parents who would bring in their children to work on the site.
School bags and books were distributed to the children who were inducted in the school by the commissioner of police Mahesh M Bhagwat.
Malla Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ibrahimpatnam, “Our Commissioner of police Mahesh M Bhagwat has made it very clear to our department that he does not want slightest of any kind of mistake in this project as it would be equal to playing with the lives of the children. This is the reason why we have decided to provide food and transport to the children coming to school.”
“Raghunandan Rao, Collector of Ranga Reddy district has decided to provide Rs 1 per kg rice to the workers of brick kiln, so, that they can feed their children and do not sleep hungry after returning from work” said Raghunandan Rao.
