There have been several complaints regarding the harassment by the band parties and late-night DJ programs as part of family functions like marriages and processions.
South Zone DCP Satyanarayana has introduced the Anti Baraat Squads in order to keep these late-night processions in check and it is already yielding results.
So far, 25 cases have been booked against Baraat organisers and sponsors as part of the crack down on late night nuisance in Old City. Satyanarayana said that public nuisance during nights has been going unchecked for a long time and were seemed to be unstoppable.
The decision was taken in the larger interest of the people because silence and tranquillity are the basic rights of people and no one has that right to snatch that away from them, he said.
People also appreciated the move and said that it must be there for long time in order to root out the thought of late night Baraats in Old City. Aqeel Ahmed from Dabeerpura said that celebrations need not to be necessarily disturbing others. He said, “If one has the right to celebrate, others have the right to experience peace and silence during night. People need to be conscious and thoughtful while they carry out their processions in residential areas.”
South Zone police has given a mobile number 94906 16551 to complain any such nuisance in Old City. There are four teams under Charminar, Meer Chowk, Falaknuma and Santosh Nagar divisions.
Almost 40 constables are patrolling in the late night to see whether there is any nuisance during late night processions and Baraats.
