Nearly 70,000 people walked in during that time. These numbers are not small and are very disturbing said, Chetan B. Sanghi, Joint Secretary for Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt of India.

Representing on behalf of Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, who couldn’t make to the National Women’s Summit due to Union Budget, Chetan B. Sanghi said, Violence Against Women is the focus area of our ministry.

The Ministry also has a helpline for Cyber Crimes against women and children. They are the primary target.

This helpline “Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC)” was introduced taking note of the increasing cyber bullying and harassment directed against women and children, said Chetan B. Singh. The portal, which is be funded through Nirbhaya fund, revealed that the number of cases are going down, which is a good development.

“Cyber platforms are increasingly being misused by perpetrators to harass and abuse women and children for voyeuristic pleasures. Ministry has been working actively about this with Ministry of Home Affairs, NCRB and NIC to tackle Cybercrime against women and children,” he informed.

Speaking further Chetan B. Singh added that we have been hearing about many husbands holding the passports of the their wives and harassing them. Ministry of has done away with name of the spouse or father in the Passport.

This was have done because in view of the many complaints received, especially from women, of precudural harassment in passport offices and also keeping with global practices. That is why the Ministry of External Affairs is doing away with those details.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched nari.nic.in, a portal for all schemes for women. The portal carries details on 350 different schemes for women and will be updated from time to time.

The schemes are divided into seven different categories---- education, health, employment, housing and shelter, addressing violence, decision making and social support.

This portal provides information on all government schemes for women. Users can log on to www.nari.nic.in to access information on different programmes offered by various state governments as well as the Centre, the minister told reporters he informed.

Education is the first step towards women empowerment said Swati Singh, Minister for Women & Child Welfare Ministry, Govt of UP. She delivered a special address at the ongoing 3- day National Women’s Summit being organised by Pragna Bharathi.

On the day two of the Summit today, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar of Art of Living addressed the 1000 plus gathering over Skype and answered to the questions of the participants.
