Bandlaguda: There are hardly any fuel stations with toilets for public in Bandlaguda to Santosh Nagar area. Under the Swachh Bharat guidelines as well as the directives issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed petrol pump owners to set up toilets on their petrol pump premises and grant access to public.

There are close to 8-10 pumps in Bandlaguda to Santosh Nagar, but only 2-3 of the petrol pumps have the facilities. Some of pumps have the toilets but not in good condition. Even the fire safety kits are expired.

Ram, a resident of Bandlaguda said, “People pay for filling air in tyres on their own good will but as per the rules, the pump personnel are not supposed to collect money as it is a free air service.

Every petrol pump should have firefighting instruments in case the station catches fire. The safety equipment as per statutory requirements is fire extinguishers, sand buckets etc.

G Anand, owner of AKL Chandrayangutta filling station, said that, as per rules petrol pumps come under the government of Commerce and Industries. Primarily, petrol pumps need to sell petrol.

Another petrol pump owner on condition of anonymity said, If the toilet facilities are just for those who come to buy petrol it is fine but if it is open for all, there are possibilities of misuse.
