Secunderabad: Christians from around the city celebrated Ash Wednesday, to mark the start of their 40 days of abstinence called Lent. Many people were found making their way to their respective churches during the early hours of the Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is a day when every Christian is reminded that they are made of dust, and it is to dust they shall return, thus giving them a sense of individuality without their worldly pleasures and possessions. A priest draws a cross over the forehead of the person, using ashes, reminding him of the Lord.

From today starts a season of abstainaance and prayer for Christians till they reach the holy week, which will start off with the Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and finally end it with the celebration of Easter Sunday.
