Amberpet: It is not even been a month since Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Amberpet corporator Kalery Padma Venkatesh launched a free Wi-Fi point at Amberpet Road No 6 along with segregation of dry and wet waste. Net sensors were placed to receive free WiFi on mobile phones if the garbage is dumped in the arranged bins via a One Time Password to access the Wi-Fi facility.

But today, this technology fails to provide internet connection to the users. It is now just a showcase for the public as is not beneficial to them in any way. The Wi-Fi also suffers from signal quality.

A shopkeeper near the WiFi point, Prasad said that despite dust bins being provided by the GHMC people throw their waste on the road. He affirmed that this WiFi cum segregation of waste installed recently is of no use.

Appreciating the initiative, a WiFi user Srinivas said that ‘while the idea of Wi-Fi along with segregation of dry and wet waste is a good one I am not able to connect Wi-Fi to my mobile phone’. He also agreed that though there are dust bins people throw waste on the road.

Repeated attempts to contact the Amberpet corporator went in vain. It was on February 3, Mayor and the local corporator had inaugurated the Wi-Fi point cum waste segregation bins at the location.
