Hyderabad: ‘Jai Bhavani… Veer Shivaji… Jai Telangana’ were the slogans echoing all along the colourful ‘Shobha Yatra’ taken out in the Old city to mark the 388th Jayanthi Celebrations of Chatrapati Shivaji on Monday.

Thousands of saffron - clad youth and the old actively participated in the rally taken up by Sri Chatrapati Shivaji Maratha Navyuvak Mandal, Sri Chatrapati Shivaji Maratha Sanskritik Trust on Monday. The Shobha Yatra started after pooja at Bhavani temple at Shiv Dwar near Purana Pul.


It was flagged off by SC Commission member K Ramulu, Musi River Front Development Corporation Chairman Prem Singh Rathod and Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh. The rally proceeded from Purana Pul, Jumerat Bazar, Chudi Bazar, Begum Bazar, Siddiambar Bazar and ended at Shivaji Statue at Imliban Park.

The main attraction was the tableaus which included Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Jija Bai, Maharana Pratap, Bharat Mata and others. The traditional Warkari Bhajan Mandali performed their traditional lezium dance, bhajans, dhol tasha of Pune etc. Several other rallies from different parts of the city joined the main procession, which culminated in the form of a public meeting at Chatrapati Shivaji statue at Imliban Park.

Speaking at the occasion, Raja Singh called upon the youth to take inspiration from Shivaji and follow the path shown by the Hindu king. “Shivaji Maharaj ensured Hindu society remained united.

We should think… If Shivaji was not there whether we would have lived like a Hindu. There was one Afzal Khan during the era of Shivaji. We need to tackle many such Afzal Khans today,” said Raja Singh. Every Indian should carry a saffron flag to save the country, he said.

Former MLA Prem Singh Rathod, Corporator Mukesh Singh, Maratha Navyuvak Mandal president Madhukar (Madan) Jadhav, Convener Gopal Jagtap, Sanskritik Trust Chairman L K Shinde, Maratha Sports Cell secretary Dileep Jagtap, Maratha Mandal Telangana president Prakash Patil, Nivas Nikam, Ram Sherikar, Ram Vadikar, Balaji Kanse, Sadhuram, Ramesh Bhonsle, Rajesh Shinde, Anil Kadam, Shankar Rao Jadhav, Vasu Jadhav, Uma Mahender, Ravinder and others were also present.
