Purani Haveli: Want to go back in time and get a feel of what Hyderabad was like? A visit to the Nizam’s museum is a must. Just a stone’s throw from Salar Jung Museum, the Nizam’s museum at Purani Haveli is a treasure trove for history buffs.

What makes the museum unique is the collection which houses gifts presented to the last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan in 1927 for the silver jubilee celebrations.

Bullock cart of the then transport department, taxi cars, Deccan Airways tickets, Horse cart, Postal Vehicle of 1940, old utensils and pictures of some important landmarks are the major attractions of the museum.

Other major attractions are a Charminar replica, 3500 years old pots and utensils found near Lingampally in 2004, postal stamps of 1869, Telephone of 1925, Radio Station equipment that was established in 1932 in Chirag Ali lane.

It is behind the Princes Durrushahwar Hospital in Purani Haveli and adjacent to the residence of erstwhile princes. The museum has the pictures of old Hyderabad, its buildings and landmarks besides vehicles used during the seventh Nizam time.

Apart from this, the museum is a place for Jewellery replicas and pictures of Jacob Diamond, Kohinoor and others. On the other hand it has the artifacts belonging to Qutub Shahi dynasty, Kakatiya, Pandeyulu, Cholas and Mughals.

Some sections of the museum has the old coins and precious stones used in during the Asaf Jahi time in Hyderabad.
