Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the Task Force and Rein Bazaar police raided an adulterated ghee manufacturing unit in Rein Bazaar. They seized 2500 kg of adulterated ghee, which was manufactured by using ‘discarded material’ and 20 tins of palm oil and vanaspati.

According to Task Force officials, the unit which was set up secretly in a house has been supplying the ghee to markets at a cheaper price of about Rs 240 per kg, while the genuine ghee is generally sold for a higher price per kg. In turn the traders were selling the same for huge margin to gullible customers.

On Tuesday night, the unit was raided by the team of police officials and seized all the material including 2500 kg of adulterated ghee, which were packed and were being transported for marketing.

“They use discarded, which means the product which has expired for a meagre price and manufacture the ghee. The accused had stockpiled huge quantities of such butter and other items for this purpose. They also add taste improver to the adulterated ghee for ensuring it tastes like genuine ghee,” said a police official.

The police officials asked the people to remain cautious while buying the products. “These products may affect the health and even can lead to chronic diseases like cancer. It is better to buy products, which are certified by food standard
authority,” added the official.
