Charminar: Shops near Charminar area may have a uniform display with heritage background in the coming days. This is to create an ambience for historical monument of Charminar and preserve the unique identity of the area.

This was proposed by the Municipal Administration & Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar.

He inspected the Charminar pedestrianisation works on Friday and opined that uniformity can augment the appearance and historic ambience in the area.

He further said that changes on the sign boards would be brought as a part of Charminar Pedestrianisation Project in Laad Bazar in phase 1. A team of officials may shortly visit Istambul, Turkey in order to study the integration, synergisation of Architecture, heritage pedestrianisation, transport and tourism.

The Principal Secretary said the Charminar Pedestrian Project was costing around Rs 35 crore and the works were in progress as per the directions of the Municipal Minister K Taraka Rama Rao.

The Arvind Kumar instructed the officials concerned to remove flexes, banners and hoardings with priority in the surroundings of the project besides installing the modernised LED lights in and around the project area.

He informed that NTPC had provided funds of Rs 9 crore for Swachh Iconic Project and said that NTPC authorities would be consulted to fund for the development of Laad Bazar area in coming days.

Municipal officials were instructed to remove the open manholes near Sardarmahal and surroundings. South Zone Commissioner Srinivas Reddy, State Road Development Corporation Chief Engineer Srinivas Rao, CPP Project Director Dathupanth and other officials were participated in the inspection.

There have been different proposals pertaining to the Charminar area development over past two years. The project may be completed by six months and the vicinities of Charminar may get a shape by end of the current year.
