Siddipet, ( Vantamamidi): As part of its commitment to help farmers and educate them with best practices, METRO Wholesale in association with Bayer Crop Science organized a farmer training and meeting.

The event, held at Metro Wholesale’s Vantimandi’s Collection Center was attended by around 70 farmers who were given some training on several practices including pest management, soil nutrition management, food safety, post-harvest practices.

The aim of this farmer-connect initiative is to help farmers increase their produce; find the right market to sell their products at the right price. The Direct Farm program is an ongoing initiative by Metro Wholesale and so far approximately 5000 registered farmers across the country have been positively impacted by it.

Through the Farmers’ Collection Centers, Metro sources fresh fruits and vegetables directly from farmers that helps them fetch good price for their products. The direct sourcing from farm benefits farmers from transportation costs, eliminates middlemen and their commission which impacts their gain considerably.

Metro Wholesale conducts farmer training programs at regular intervals covering wide range of topics using their in-house and agricultural experts.

The farmer collection centre of Telangana is located at Vontimammadi, Mandal – Mulugu, Dist. – Siddipet, through which Metro obtains 30-35 major vegetables and seasonal fruits directly from 1000 native farmers, contributing 1200 MT per annum i.e 25% of total volume of Hyderabad stores.
