Kushaiguda: Long queues were seen at wine shops along the Kushaiguda to ECIL stretch ahead of Holi festival which falls on Thursday. People started visiting wine shops to stock up alcohol as the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, V V Srinivas Rao has ordered closure of toddy and wine shops and bars attached to restaurants in the twin cities from 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Commissioner also banned throwing of coloured water on persons or property and smearing people with colour in public places.

An owner of a wine shop at ECIL was heard instructing his worker to put up a display board informing customers to form a queue. At several wine shops people were crowding leading to inconvenience to the public. Indiscipline of crowds gathering at wine shops affects law and order and traffic flow in the city.

Arvind, a resident of Saket said, “The police should have banned the sale of liquor on the day of Holi. There was no need to put restrictions a day before the festival as it leads to inconvenience. Many employees have taken short leave to purchase liquor” he informed.
