Pulkal: The merriment of 'Holi' soon turned into a mayhem for the families of two school students in Sangareddy district on Thursday.

Soon after celebrating the festival of colours, two high school students of Pulkal mandal drowned in Manjeera River after they got into it to bathe and wash the smeared colours. The students were identified as Sai Kumar, (15), a student of government high school of Korpole village and Sai Kiran, (15), studying class X at the Shivampet government high school.

According to ASI Prabhakar of Pulkal Police Station, Sai Kumar and Sai Kiran along with a group of friends went to enjoy a bathe in the Manjeera River adjacent to Korpole village after celebrating the Holi.

Without the knowledge about the depth of the river Sai Kumar and Sai Kiran drowned into the river as while the other students remained at the banks of the river. The locals who were taking bath at a nearby place rushed to the rescue of the students but could not help them survive. The police sent the bodies to the government hospital at Jogipet for autopsy and registered a case.
