Hyderabad: There won’t be any problem of drinking water shortage in the Twin Cities during the ensuing summer, assured Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director M Danakishore on Friday.

Holding a review meeting in HMWS &SB office with the Revenue department officials, O & M staff regarding the supply situation to be met in summer in areas where there is no tanker supply, Danakishore directed every GM to submit the summer water supply plan of action by Thursday.

He stated that adequate water was available and that temporary measures were being taken to ensure that there were no supply problems during the summer. Kishore said 400 mgd of water was being supplied daily in the City. The board was ready to make available an additional 25 mgd. Special personnel were being appointed to oversee the implementation of the summer plan of action for water supply.

The board MD directed officials to complete work by the month-end in localities not served by tankers to ensure tap supply. He said by providing tap water in localities covered by tanker supply the board’s burden would be lessened. Danakishore announced that shortly super sucker machines would be put to use, with special focus on sewerage clearance. This would ensure that there won’t be any water contamination.

The MD reviewed the board’s revenue collection and asked O & M officials to take steps for increased income. He directed the water supply connections of consumers who don’t pay bills regularly should be disconnected and that there should be no tanker supply to irregular commercial consumers. Danakishore wanted commercial establishments to compulsorily take up rain water harvesting pits. If not additional charges would be collected from them for tanker supply from April 1.

To discuss this issue he said a three-member committee of engineering officials would be constituted. Among those present at the meeting were HMWSSB Operations Director Ajmira Krishna, Operations II Director P Ravi, Revenue Director B Vijaykumar Reddy, CGMs of O & M wing, GMs, DGMs and managers.
