Hyderabad: The real freedom is when the women feel safe to walk in the streets of India in midnight said the Director General of Police K. Mahender Reddy quoting the ‘Father Of The Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, in an event organised by 'She Teams' to mark the International Women’s day.

The Hyderabad police have organised a slew of events to mark International Women’s day which falls on March 8. As part of the event, the city police held 10K, 5K and 2K run on Sunday. The events were aimed to create awareness on women safety issues and to achieve a crime-free Hyderabad. The DGP along with other dignitaries flagged off the run.

Speaking on the occasion Mahender Reddy said that the women's safety has given highest priority in Telangana state police, as well as Hyderabad city police. He also asserted that the city police efforts for the wellbeing of women in the form of She Teams are giving fruitful results since its inception.

The event was attended by about six thousand enthusiasts including several foreign nationals. “Events like this will help the women to come out and report the harassment to police,” said Swati Lakra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes and She Teams).
The event was embraced by different folks of the society including sports and cinema.

Arjun Reddy fame Vijay Devarakonda hoped that, “There is a day when my future wife or someone would go out, and [their families] don’t even have to be stressed knowing that they will come safe,” he said counting Hyderabad police’s safety measurements and friendly policing. The GHMC women employees also took part in the run sloganeering – women safety and Swachh city are the aims.

The star shuttler PV Sindhu also pitched in saying the initiatives like She Teams have to be taken-up across the country considering the security and safety of the women.
