CHORD celebrates women’s day
CHORD, a Hyderabad based NGO associated with Microsoft India celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) on Wednesday to commemorate with the successful completion of community development initiative
Hyderabad : CHORD, a Hyderabad based NGO associated with Microsoft India celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) on Wednesday to commemorate with the successful completion of community development initiative GROWTH GENE PROJECT under which fifty women selected from the marginalised sections of the society were trained in tailoring and textile designing skills and had successfully completed their training, at NTR Nagar, Yellammabanda slum, Kukatpally.
They would be given graduation certificates by the Project Partner Microsoft India which has significance as it is coinciding with the IWD and a fitting initiative to women empowerment. CHORD has 29 such projects spread across the country of which it is active in seven districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and has 120 full timers and 800 global volunteers. Nearly 15,000 children in education and 3,000 youth in skill training have benefited by various initiatives so far.
For the past three years, CHORD has been successfully implementing the Microsoft Project and imparting training to 600 women in tailoring and soft skills besides providing remedial courses to 600 school drop-outs.
The project, started in Yellammabanda slum in 2015, strives to transform the downtrodden by infusing the lives of children, mothers and women with a sustainable generator of growth through education, skill-based training and sensitisation about child rights and women empowerment. The ambitious programme also envisaged setting up a garment making Social Enterprise to provide employment to enterprising women.
Besides meeting all the goals in the last three years, the Project was instrumental in the emergence of Social Start-Ups that provide employment to over fifty women currently.
