Golkonda: Katora Houz is a four-acre man made tank which was built by Qutub Shahi Dynasty at Golkonda fort. The lake which was full of water has now turned into a stinky pond full of hyacinth leading to rampant mosquito breeding and piles of waste around.

Katora House is a symmetrically perfect lake, an architectural marvel plastered with lime adorned with a fountain which is situated right at the centre. The lake is now surrounded by sewage pipelines from nearby residential areas through all the borders of the tank.
Moinuddin a local resident said “GHMC talks about this lake very often but nobody takes any initiative to clean this.

Mosquitoes are haunting us every day, with the changing season they are growing rapidly. Sometimes entomology department do use thermal fogging spray but of no use as it’s the same from the next day”.

Syed, a store merchant in the area said that last year they started cleaning but for some reason it was stopped, thereafter the lake was exploited further now the fences are also broken and residents dump garbage turning this heritage site into a stinky tank.
When asked about the same subject, GHMC officials said that they were planning to rebuild the fencing and clean the lake again. Meanwhile, the lake was recently surveyed by the GHMC commissioner along with GHMC officials and other local leaders.
