Telangana’s first Onco-Anesthesia conference at KIMS
KIMS Hospitals held Telangana’s first ever conference on Onco-Anesthesia on Sunday. The field of Onco-Surgery has seen phenomenal growth in the last decade as a result of increased awareness and diagnosis of cancerous conditions besides improvements in the medical and surgical interventions for the patients.

The field of Onco-Surgery has seen phenomenal growth in the last decade as a result of increased awareness and diagnosis of cancerous conditions besides improvements in the medical and surgical interventions for the patients.
Onco-Anesthesia is an upcoming sub-specialty in the field of Anesthesiology. Cancer patients go through tremendous physical and mental trauma so they need a special affection along with the medical treatment. Surgery is one of the main options for most of the cancers which in turn leads to need of anesthesia.
The anesthetist deals with the complexities and intricacies which are specific to patients presenting with cancerous diseases for surgeries or needing palliative and pain management for advanced malignancies.
Also they are involved in providing chronic pain relief which these patients need. They deal with preparing the best possible pre-operative plans, for this subset of patients keeping in mind the long term treatment and acute side effects of prior cancer management therapy.
The academic event has been designed with an intention to bring together various clinicians involved in the care of patients affected with cancer and to expose the young medical fraternity to the advances in the fields of Onco-Anesthesia, Surgery and Intensive care.
The programme was inaugurated by KIMS Hospitals MD & CEO Dr Bhaskar Rao and presided over by Dr Naresh Kumar Reddy and Dr Jayashree Patki, senior consultants from the Dept. of Anesthesia ,KIMS hospitals. Lectures and interactive sessions is conducted by eminent Anesthesiologists.
It is expected that the young doctors from across the state will benefit significantly from this academic activity and the event has witnessed the attendance of 120 doctors from Telangana.
Hyderabad has a number of centres practicing cancer management therapy in its various modalities, implying the need for bringing the practitioners on a common platform. This Conference is dedicated to science of Onco-Anesthesia and is expected to be a trend setter in this field.
The KIMS Hospitals Onco-Anesthesia update 2018 is expected to go a long way in furthering the science and introduce this evolving specialty to the younger generation of doctors.
