This is a new liquid-based cytology technique to enable accurate cervical cancer screening “BD SurePath Direct to Slide” and was launched in the city on Monday.
Traditionally, conventional pap smear, a simple and quick test has been the mainstay for cervical cancer screening.

However, this method has limitations in preparations technique and its ability to detect every abnormality, hence the need to move towards a better and efficient technique. As innovation and research continues in battling the increasing burden of cervical cancer, new technologies such as liquid Based Cytology has been emerged as superior screening method.

Dr. K. Suseela, Senior Consultant Pathologist and Member Secretary Institutional Ethics committee Basavatarakam Indo American Hospital & Research Centre, Hyderabad said, “Liquid Based Cytology screening test has demonstrated ability to detect abnormal changes in the cells at initial stages thus, preventing cervical cancer from progressing and ensuring cure when detected early enough. It is time that cervical cancer screening should become a part of the routine health check-up for women.”
