Suraram: Under the pretext of Telangana State government's prestigious Mission Bhagiratha initiative and Underground Drainage projects, roads in areas around Suraram are being demolished on a regular basis causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians using the route. In a shocking incident, the pathways at Sai Baba Nagar here were not being restored even months after the development works in the area have been completed by the Water Works Department.
Piles of mud and remains of the concrete road have become a regular sight in the colony. Despite several pleas to the GHMC officials, no action has been taken to lay down the dug-up roads in the area.
A resident, on condition of anonymity, complained that the government authorities were turning deaf ear to the woes of the colony residents. He alleged that breaking and making roads has become a money minting business for the contractors.
"On one hand, we are being told that we'll get drinking water and on the other hand, our roads are being destroyed making it difficult for us to walk let alone drive. With all the dust that raises from the road, it is becoming difficult to breathe. There have been incidents where near mishaps have been avoided in just a blink of the eye.
Who should we hold responsible if something happens to any of them? It is an irony that what has been started for the convenience of people is now turning out to be a major inconvenience." retorts Prasad, a resident. There have been complaints that even the work done on these roads were of poor quality that the manholes placed a few days back were easily getting damaged with the movement of vehicles in the area.
But it is also shocking to know that where the contractor has to pay attention whether the newly constructed manholes are regularly being tended or not, he was turning a blind eye to it thereby leaving it in a dilapidated state.
When enquired why such callousness is being meted out to the public by GHMC and its contractors, Qutubullapur GHMC Deputy Commissioner N Sudhamsh responded immediately and sent personnel of the municipality to repair the damages to manholes in the area. He assured to probe into the matter and said that the roads would be restored at the earliest to end the woes of commoners in the area.
