Consumers should be aware of their rights

Siddipet: Every consumer should be aware of consumer laws and rights to avoid being cheated while purchasing the goods and services by scientifically recognising the quality, said the Joint Collector Padmakar on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day at Siddipet.

Speaking at the programme held along with at RDO office here on the topic of ‘Transperancy in Digital Market’, the Joint Collector said consumers should form into societies to fight for their rights. The awareness programmes to awake the consumers need to be organised not only at district headquarters but also at mandal headquarters from next year, said the JC who unveiled the pamphlets of the occasion.

On the request of the consumers for the formation of Consumers Forum Association at Siddipet, JC Padmakar said that he would send the recommendations to the Commissionerate for the formation of Consumer Court here. Talking on the transparency in digital market, the official said Siddipet was good in terms of cashless transactions.

People should be educated on the consumer laws and rights. Businessmen should be honest and follow ethics in their business. At the time of the introduction of consumer acts, the number of cases by consumers was high which had gradually decreased due to lack of knowledge on it, opined the members of consumers’ association.

They also advised some changes in the laws, said the president of the association K Sathyanarayana who mentioned that the consumers could also lodge their complaints by calling toll free helpline 180042500333 under the jurisdiction of Siddipet Commissionerate. ‘

Baddipadaga’ village of Nangunuru mandal in Siddipet district was among the top ten places in the country, said the regional manager of ICICI Bank. A few of businessmen were felicitated with the best services awards at the programme which was attended by agriculture and food safety department officials.
