Time and again land sharks in Qutubullapur are making their presence felt by illegally encroaching empty lands across the constituency. Dulapally: Time and again land sharks in Qutubullapur are making their presence felt by illegally encroaching empty lands across the constituency. But this time their target was not any other government property or open space but the Full Tank Level (FTL) lands on the banks of the famous Fox Sagar Lake in Dulapally.
The 120-year-old lake which once catered as a drinking water source to British soldiers in the neighbourhood, today stands threatened as it is being illegally encroached upon by the near and dear ones of those in power and position or is being unlawfully used to dump construction materials.
Ignorance on behalf of the irrigation department too is adding to the woes of the water body. It is surprising that a lake which sprawls over nearly 2 kilometers of the vast lands in the constituency is still bereft of FTL pillars. Moreover, none of the authorities have taken any action on the encroachers who have been piling up nearly 1000 tipper truckload of mud since the past four days at the lake, raising questions of doubt among nature lovers in the area.
In fact, with the rapid growth of industries in and around Dulapally, already several stretches of the FTL and Buffer lands were illegally occupied due to which nearly 70 houses in Uma Maheshwar Colony of Kompally were drowned in the past rainy season causing inconvenience to the residents. But if the encroachment continues at the current rate, experts fear that soon the lake water might break free and flood the residential areas around it leading to an alarming situation in the state.
It may also be recalled that just two years ago when the lake's water was severely polluted by the chemicals and leftovers being released from the nearby industries, the then IPS officer Jitender Kaur had adopted the water body and helped in cleaning it along with the personnel of the TSPS (APSP) Battalion to restore the lake's water quality. It is saddening to know that despite several requests to develop the Fox Sagar Lake as a tourist spot, no action has been taken by the state government.
Moreover, in a recent incident, an elderly man claiming to be a distant kin of the Chief Minister caused a nuisance at one of the illegal construction sites when the revenue inspector Renuka along with the VRO and VRA went on to demolish his illegal constructions at the FTL lands of Fox Sagar.
A Rangineni Rangaiah physically assaulted the JCB driver and hurtled words of abuse to the revenue officials warning that he would ensure that they would be transferred soon. Hence, the officials lodged a criminal case against the accused at Pet Basheerabad Police Station, here on Wednesday night.
The future of Fox Sagar lake is now at stakes and if the government doesn't respond on time, the day is not far when the water body would completely disappear from the map of Qutubullapur constituency.
