People told to be wary of digital marketing frauds

Vikarabad: District Collector Sayyad Omar Jaleel has expressed concern over cheating of consumers through digital marketing and asked consumers to obtain cash receipts for everything they bought.

Addressing government officials at a meeting held at the Collectorate in connection with the world consumer day on Thursday under the aegis of the civil supplies department, he said every citizen comes under the definition of the consumer and pointed out that adulteration of commodities, including gold, is on the rise.

Laying emphasis on sensitizing people against the adulteration, he asked the officials to get posters on who should be consulted, when cheated and for obtaining compensation, printed and display them at important places in the town.

Contrary to the earlier practice, the traders are passing off sub-standard goods as quality products, he said adding that some other unscrupulous traders are cheating people in the name of collecting the GST. The collector asked officials to ensure that boards display GST for each project.

He asked food and drug inspectors to intensify raids on business establishments to check adulteration. He asked legal metrology department personnel to check digital scales and certify them that they are in proper order.

Incharge collector Sandhya Rani asked the consumers to collect receipt from traders who sell their goods along with the GST. She asked the civil supplies officials to set up a help center for the benefit of consumers duped by traders.

Deputy Civil Supplies Officer Padmaja, civil supplies district manager Alivelu Manga, District Rural Development Officer Johnson, legal metrology department official Chitti Babu and others took part in the meeting.
