Golkonda: Six months ago, a project was initiated to improve facilities in the Area Hospital which also included the infrastructure of the building. The Area Hospital has always aimed at better facilities to patients. It was a project started by the Director for Public Health and Family Welfare IAS Vakati Karuna along with the hospital management.

The outpatient ward is now renovated with new paint, plaster and is furnished with chairs apart from this other facilities in hospital like sanitation, clinical and pharmaceutical care have improved in the hospital. Although the condition of the old wards in the first floor of building still remain unsatisfactory with the poor, insufficient bed conditions, stinky corridors and messy toilets.

A relative to a patient , Nadeem said “My wife is being treated here and this hospital is much better now I’m coming from Narsingi and area hospital Golkonda is better than any other government hospital and healthcare centres nearby. Medicines are also given on time”.

A patient who is admitted in the hospital for leg injury, Mujahid said “doctors give enough time and care to every patient and the staff here is very helpful”.
Orthopedic patient to the hospital, Yellamma said “I had to stand in long queues for registration, checkup and medicines . Unlike earlier now there are chairs”.
However, despite chairs being installed in outpatient ward department of gynaecology which is full of visitors has no seating facility.

A senior nurse in the hospital said “Over 1000 patients visit the hospital everyday. On Mondays the hospital is overcrowded, and it gets tough for the staff to manage crowds. Mornings are usually flooded with patients, many patients here come from distant places now because the hospital has better facilities”.

Regional Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Srinivas said “The renovation work started about six months ago and the outpatient ward is now completed, rest of the building will also be beautified. With better facilities for patients we now have new and better sanitation facilities. There is no problem with the pharmaceutical department as well as medicines are served on time and the hospital is capable enough to manage crowds as well”.
