Gachibowli/Madhapur: For the 52 employees including a pregnant woman, all who lost their jobs at Verizon, life is still a mirage. It has been several months but still there seems to be no hope, says Vedavathi, a former employee. These 52 employees have moved the High Court and their case is moving at snail’s pace, so is their life.

Highlights:

• There are close to a lakh of employees still looking out for jobs
• The bench strength in IT companies which used to be 35% reduced to 5% now
• 52 employees who were removed from Verizon are still without a job and the case is in the High Court

According to rough estimates, close to one lakh IT employees lost their jobs and 90 per cent of them are still to be employed. Y Kiran Chandra, founder member, Forum of IT Professionals says, “In the past, the bench strength in IT companies used to be 35 per cent but now it has been reduced to just 5 per cent and anyone with five and above years of experience are shown the door.”

The common problem people face is the question- ‘Why are you without a job for so long? And this hurdle is a big one to cross.” Apuri Satya, a former employee of Tech Mahindra said, “The government should come out with a white paper on the IT sector. Only then will we know about the number of people who lost their jobs.

Also, the government is dishing out all goodies to the IT companies, but they are not bothered about employees.” Apuri shares his trauma of being removed without notice, “When I received an email, I went to court and the case is on. There seems to be no hope of any justice soon. I am still unemployed.” Another Tech Mahindra employee Prashanth said, “Companies are focusing on profits. Though we are going to labour commissioner, no action is taken.”
